Ann, friend

I remember only too well the day Jan told me she had a lump under her arm – it will always stick in my mind.

I remember thinking and hoping that it was probably only a cyst or swollen glands or something …………… but certainly not cancer. So when cancer was confirmed it was a bolt out of the blue – I truly never thought it could happen to my dear friend.

However, time went on – treatment went on – and I realised that there wasn’t a lot that I could help her with. It is very difficult seeing people suffering and feeling unable to assist in any way. I couldn’t give any medical advice and I don’t know anything about alternative therapies – so the only thing I could do was listen and give her my support as best I could.

It was then that Jan said it was a great help to her to have a friend who was having the same treatment, and who had the same type of cancer so they could compare notes about the effects of chemo etc. It is always a comfort when there is someone who is feeling exactly the same as you are and can relate to your feelings.

Consequently, when Jan mentioned about setting up a website with the aim of getting people together, I immediately thought that here is something I could do to help her and it would be something that would also help others. It has taken time, patience and effort on everyone’s part to get this far – but I am sure that this is just the start of something BIG!
